New York  ·  Forty rooms

The hall at the hour of reception
A room above the street, the city held behind tracery

Forty rooms behind a screen lit from within. The hall behaves like a nave, running the depth of the site to a window at the far end; reception sits to one side of the arrival, with the cells above it.

The vaulted hall receives guests at the door
The guests' kitchen, kept separate
A cell: a desk, a bed, a window worth sitting at

Twenty-two rooms behind a tracery screen set into a brownstone street. A vaulted hall receives guests at the door, and the guests' kitchen is kept separate, so that an arrival at an irregular hour disturbs no one. Each cell holds a desk, a bed, and a window worth sitting at.
